THE ELEMENT OF SURPRISE………………………
Venturing out into virgin country presents all kinds of surprises, and these revelations serve as an astonishment not just for the trout but for us as humans as well…
Reminds me of when I was young and made the decision to travel from Melbourne on vacation to the country region of the Snowy Mountains of NSW…I thought I knew it all, dressed in an acid bleached phsycadelic top, Orange Flared Pants, and Platform Soles….
i was on Lake Eucumbenes shore from Morning till late afternoon, and begin to wonder why I wasn’t catching anything? An Old Born and Bred local walked past after his day out carrying 3 x nice fat Brown Trout, and after exchanging some complimentary conversation explained to me: “You won’t catch much dressed like that Mate!” I asked Why?, The Ol timer answered: “You’re dressed too bright and you”ll spook the fish!”….. The Ol Timer further validated his statement by asking me another question,,,, “Can you reel in your line and show me what tackle you are using?”…. “Sure!, I answered”…Ol Bloke was right in his observation; he answered; “There’s you’re other problem right there!” The tackle you are using is designed for the deep sea and far too heavy for educated trout in these waters….
What the Ol Timer taught me in 1 hour was enough info to last a lifetime!!….He kindly mentioned that loud bright clothing will send the trout scurrying, and that trout can easily see heavy haulage type line and sinker…. I noticed what he was wearing was camouflage in appearance, and his fishing outfit was very light.. He also had a fly rod; which I knew little about at the time.
Never saw the Ol Timer after that, but his legacy lives on…….
Many years later, I had the opportunity to visit some remote trout fishing spots. The results were surprisingly very different, and the fish tally was up considerabely…
THE ELEMENT IN THIS EQUATION is SURPRISE!!!!
Until next time around; Solid Lines…………Big Al…….
We have a state fishery that raises trout then releases them. They have them in every size sectioned off. The streams are full of mostly rainbow trout and we visit frequently so the grandkids can feed them. I miss fishing and have fished since I was a child but I never went trout fishing! Thank you for your enjoyable post!

I absolutely love your recipes…Look my wife is vegan, and I am just wondering if you might be able to send me only 1 or 2 at the most, recipes which you think are moorish to suit the vegan diet. Many thanks; and much Appreciated, Al…
